Facts About LUISS Guido Carli University

LUISS Guido Carli University, also known as LUISS, is a distinguished private university located in the city center of Rome, Italy. The university takes an innovative educational approach to convey knowledge in social sciences.

The university traces its origin to Pro Deo University, an early Roman institution that was established in 1966. In 1974, a group of investors led by Umberto Agnelli pulled their resources together and decided to invest in an innovative educational project. Out of their efforts, LUISS was born and a new academic approach was adopted to propel the university in the direction of a world-class institution.

In 1977, the institution was renamed Libera Università Internazionale Degli Studi Sociali (LUISS). In 1994, the university was renamed again in honor of its first president Guido Carli and it became LUISS Guido Carli university.

Since then, the university has grown rapidly, and today it has five different campuses: Viale Romania, Viale Pola, Via Parenzo, Villa Blanc, and Viale di Villa Emiliani. The campuses of Viale Romania, Viale Pola, and Villa Blanc are immersed in historical gardens with significant cultural relevance. In addition, LUISS has other teaching and research locations, including the Villa de Heritz and Villa Alberoni.

To better deliver high-quality education LUISS is organized around four departments: Business and Management, Economics and Finance, Political Science, and Law. Furthermore, there are four schools of graduate and professional studies: the School of Government, the LUISS Business School, the School of European Political Economy, and the School of Law. Through these, the institution offers numerous three-year bachelor’s degree programs, two-year master’s degree programs, and five-year single-cycle graduate programs, all in the social science disciplines.

LUISS Guido Carli University is home to about 10,000 students. There is also a distinguished teaching staff with a high level of academic and professional experience. Moreover, with a low teacher-to-student ratio of 1:7, they can ensure high-quality and personalized education for all students. Over the years, the university has produced many graduates. Today, it boasts more than 43,000 alumni living in different parts of the world.

In addition to the study programs, LUISS has established an extensive network of student exchange programs at more than 303 universities, in 39 countries within and outside Europe. It also offers students the opportunity to study abroad, thanks to its 46 double degrees and structured partnerships.

Also, LUISS prides itself on privileged relationships with the business world. At present, the university collaborates with more than 200 multinational corporations, private businesses, and public companies. With this, LUISS graduates get an opportunity to set foot in the business world and gain hands-on experience.

In terms of facilities, LUISS has 12 structures which include residences, teaching spaces and offices. The university library specializes in the fields of social sciences, particularly economics, law, and political science. It also collects and shares the results of the institution’s research community. Lastly, LUISS Guido Carli University has 19 research centers and units.
