Facts About King Abdulaziz University

King Abdulaziz University is a public institution of higher education in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. It was originally established in 1967 as a private university through the cooperation of various businessmen and leaders. In 1974, it was granted public university status under the then-King Faisal’s orders. Currently, it is ranked as one of the top Arab universities in the region and is also recognized by various award-giving bodies around the world.

The university offers bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs across numerous faculties and departments. Some of its noted faculties are Engineering, Economics and Administration, and Law. Students can also choose from any programs in Medical Sciences, Earth Sciences, Marine Sciences, Environmental Design, and other related interest areas. Beyond these programs, the university has several courses in Arts and Humanities, Household Economics, and more.

The university also extends its programs by managing the Jeddah Community College located in the Al-Rehab district. As the first governmental community college in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, it is focused on offering practical courses according to the demands of various industries and markets in the country. It also accepts foreign students and professionals in any of its evening associate degree programs.

Some colleges and faculties also have women-only programs. For example, the Girls' College of Education in Jeddah offers courses and other initiatives in their women’s only campus.

Aside from offering various academic programs, King Abdulaziz University is also home to numerous research projects and groups. It is noted for establishing various projects in medicine and health sciences such as the Saudi Diabetes Research Group, the Inflammatory Bowel Disease Group, the Clinical Nutrition Group, and the Embryonic and Cancer Stem Cells Group, among others.

Similarly, it also has strong research projects in engineering and sciences. Some of the more notable ones are the Information Security Group, the Biotechnology Group, the Computational Chemistry Group, the Plant Biology Group, and much more. Many of these projects work in cooperation with organizations and companies from various industries.

To improve campus life for students, the university also provides various on-campus amenities and services. The KAU Hospital, for instance, offers various health services. It also serves as a learning hospital for medicine and health sciences students. Their university dental hospital is also open in the same capacity.

The institution also promotes a balanced student life through its various clubs. Students can join and socialize through these organizations, such as the University Scout and Ranger Club, Club of Scientific Innovations, Literary Club, Folklore Club, and more. Sports clubs are also available such as the Horsemanship Club and various varsity teams. They have access to the Sports Stadium and Sports Tent for training and other recreational activities.
