Considered the educational hub of the Province of Yazd, YU is the first complete university founded after the 1979 Islamic Revolution. It is a leading state-sponsored research university in Central Iran and is considered to be among the 200 best young universities worldwide by major international ranking bodies.

The university offers a combined total of over 200 undergraduate, master’s, and doctorate degree programs through its three faculties—Engineering, Science, and Humanities & Social Sciences. The Faculty of Engineering comprises various departments, including Chemical & Polymer Engineering, Computer Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Textile Engineering, Mining & Metallurgical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, and Electrical Engineering.

Likewise, the School of Natural Resources & Desert Studies is composed of the departments of Environmental Sciences, Arid Land and Desert Management, and Watershed & Rangeland Management.

The university has several research centers, such as Ceramic Research Center, Human Development Center, Social Welfare Studies Center, and Engineering Center, as well as research institutes that focus on areas like endemic architecture, arid land & desert, mining engineering, and intelligent systems.

It accepts international students through its International Scientific Cooperation Office, which also handles YU’s exchange study programs with different universities across the world. The university’s Persian Language Teaching Center is a specialized unit for teaching the Persian Language to non-speakers.
