Delft University of Technology is the oldest and largest public technological university located in the Netherlands. Consistently ranked as one of the best universities in the world, Delft University is home to more than 19,000 students. It has a large community of international students, earning a reputation as one of the world’s top universities for engineering and technology.
The university is organized into eight faculties: Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science; Mechanical, Maritime and Materials Engineering; Civil Engineering and Geosciences; Architecture and the Built Environment; Industrial Design Engineering; Aerospace Engineering; Technology, Policy and Management; and Applied Sciences.
It offers 14 undergraduate courses and 30 postgraduate degrees in engineering, design, and science. As an innovative institution with an international outlook, all master’s degrees offered by the university are taught in English, whereas most undergraduate programs are taught in Dutch. Teaching at the university is also focused around technological training and the development of critical thinking and analytic skills.
Most of the university’s programs allow students to carry out various kinds of research projects and internships designed to give them a headstart in the employment market. With research schools being an important part of the university system, Delft University of Technology combines education, training, and research in each of its degree programs. The university also boasts strategic partnerships with trade associations, governments, industries, and numerous universities in the Netherlands to ensure quality education.
Delft University of Technology has also contributed many new technologies used today, such as the glass laminate aluminum reinforced epoxy, or GLARE, which is most often applied in the aviation field.
Situated between The Hague and Rotterdam, Delft University of Technology is surrounded by canals and is home to various classical and historical structures, such as the TU Delft Aula, which was built in Brutalist style and was officially opened in 1997. Another notable and award-winning structure located within the university premises is the TU Delft Library, which won the Dutch National Steel Prize in 1998.
Through its sports and culture center, the university also offers numerous sports and creative outlets that allow students to participate in study trips and activities. A number of study associations are also present at the university, many of them with rich customs, traditions, and history. These include the Foundation for Students in Airplane Development, Manufacturing and Management, Society for Practical Studies, and international student associations like the European Association of Aerospace Students.
