The university campus is located in the vibrant Montreal, Canada. It is known for its progressive approach in experiential learning, online education, and research.

The public research university was founded in 1974 by merging two prominent colleges: Loyola College (founded in 1896) and Sir George Williams University (founded in 1926). It is composed of the Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science, the Faculty of Fine Arts, the Faculty of Arts and Science, and the John Molson School of Business. The latter ranks consistently among the best Canadian business schools and within the top 100 global business schools. Moreover, it consistently produces graduates who work and become business leaders of various industries. Many of its alumni hold significant positions in Fortune 500 companies.

Another leading institute in the university is the Gina Cody School of Engineering and Computer Science. Previously known as Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science, it was named after one of its notable alumni, Gina Cody, who made a sizable donation and contribution to the university. Just like its business school, this faculty is considered one of the best in Canada. The Canadian news magazine Maclean's published an article in 2018 ranking its programs as some of the tops in the country. These include undergraduate and graduate programs in the Concordia Institute for Information Systems Engineering, Computer Science and Software Engineering, Chemical and Materials Engineering, and Industrial and Aerospace Engineering, among others.

Furthermore, the faculty hosts the annual Troitsky Bridge Building Competition. Students from different colleges and universities in Canada and the United States participate in this innovative competition in spring. They are tasked with designing and building model bridges out of white glue, popsicle sticks, and dental floss. The competition aims to develop and showcase the students' creativity, talent, and skills from various universities.
