The University of Nantes is a public university with six campuses in Nantes, Saint-Nazaire, and La Roche-sur-Yon in France. It boasts of being the top multidisciplinary French university with a large student size. The school envisions creating a new model for the university to one that is centered on research, training, and innovation and where students can make societal and economic impact on a global scale.
The university follows the licence-master-doctorat or LMD European model. Bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degree programs are offered under this standardized model for easy mobility in Europe and other countries. At the University of Nantes, there are over 100 degrees offered across various disciplines. These range from life sciences to humanities to economics and engineering. The University of Nantes was established by a public decree from the pope in 1460. In 1793, it was closed down because of the French revolution and would not reopen until 1962. By the 1970s, it underwent changes pursuant to the 1968 law that pushed for reforms in French higher education.

They have also formed a consortium with six other universities to form the European University of Wellbeing (EUniWell).
