It uses three languages—Italian, English, and German—as a means to widen the professional opportunities of its learners. Free language courses are even offered so students can pick up a second and third language.
unibz’s academic programs are organized into five faculties, namely economics and management, education, computer science, design and art, and science and technology. It also conducts some of its research in three competence centers, whose fields of focus include regional history, tourism and mobility, and school inclusion. Besides traditional classes, the school dedicates its educational activities to seminars, workshops, lectures with distinguished speakers, and lessons that require the practical application of skills and knowledge.
Aside from the Bolzano campus, unibz has two other campuses in Bruneck and Brixen, respectively. They are characterized by superb architecture, with the Brixen campus receiving an architecture award in 2005. The institution also has an expansive library network and an inclusive workshop for digital fabrication, on top of running its own science publication, Academia, which is co-produced by the research group EURAC.
Founded on October 31, 1997, unibz was established as an internationally oriented university that promoted multilingualism. Maintaining its ideals, the school has grown to take in over 4,000 enrolled students, more than 600 professors and researchers, and more than 200 administrative personnel as of 2020.
